Great Gray

I have a slight obsession with my new nail polish.

Details: OPI Touring America Collection, French Quarter For Your Thoughts.

I wanted a matte gray polish for fall but when I purchased this, I was too excited to wait. I put it on immediately. In love. 3 coats and I reached perfection. My obsession with gray also moved to my address labels, gray font does so much more for me than black. I headed over to Polyvore to obsess a little more.

Right now I have absolutely no need for an umbrella, coat, wool skirt or scarf for that matter, but don't you worry...these nails aren't going anywhere.

Peachy Keen - Outfit Post

Happy Friday! This skirt is so fun and just makes me happy. I went to a family birthday gathering wearing this skirt and my little nephew was insisting I twirl for him. It was so cute! As I have said before, I love the longer length shirts - so feminine and fancy feeling. I also need to disclose that these pictures were MISERABLE to take. It was 115 I believe... thank goodness the sweat was not rolling down my face! Anytime fall...I'm ready for you.

Weekend Wrap up with an unexpected act of kindness.

This past weekend was wonderful! Friday night we had a couples baby shower. I gladly accepted the dessert assignment and was so excited to try these adorable little cupcake cones that I found here. (Scroll down just a little to see the directions on how to make them.) It was my first time making these and they turned out great! There was a little bit of a situation when I got home from work... I found them tilted side to side and some fell into each other. I think the heat got to them. I was able to save most of them but next time I think I will make them the day of. Hey - you live and learn. They are super easy though, so if  you do need a cute idea for dessert, try these!

The rest of the weekend was SUPER relaxing. We had B's friends in town visiting from UT. They had a layover in PHX until they left for their cruise! So jealous! We enjoyed spending the day with them and their adorable baby girl! She is precious, the happiest baby ever. She was full of smiles. We took them to dinner at a local favorite...where we always take visitor's! We had a great dinner and were absolutely stuffed by the end!

Our waitress dropped off our check and on the receipt was a note that said our meal was taken care of. WHAT?! We all were completely surprised and wondering if this was real? Some random stranger took care of our bill? People really do that? YES, they do. Earlier in the evening a man at another table struck up conversation briefly about how cute the baby was and again told us to have a good evening on his way out. We figured it was him and our waitress confirmed. WOW. People really do random acts of kindness for others. Now it's our turn to pay it forward. Gosh, it really is all about the little things.

Happy Monday!

Basic Black with a POP.

My go to color. I love it. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE color, I LOVE patterns, I LOVE prints and I LOVE mixing them for the perfect outfit. All I'm saying is sometimes there is nothing more perfect than a simple black dress. I love the mesh with chiffon pleats on this one, I added a couple subtle pops of color to bring it all together. I'm loving belts right now, I found this super skinny mustard yellow one and did a little loop-through with it.
Julia from Gal Meets Glam must take credit for this fab idea.

Worries and Grace.

When I started this blog, I promised myself that I was going to be true to
who I am. A lot of blogs are light a fluffy with a lot of inspiration and
positivity. That's what I love so much about blogging. It's an amazing
community of creative women with thoughts and ideas to share. But at the
same time, I want to keep things real and not portray anything but what is
real in my life.

I wanted to post this because it's real and it's honest. I think people can
relate when you open up. I woke up in the middle of the night just worrying,
worrying like crazy about the most ridiculous things. I am a planner, I like
to know what is happening. I like to have goals set and a path on how I am
achieving them. This comforts me. This is a good and bad thing. Sometimes
and can worry myself crazy.

Before leaving for work, B notices something is up and the morning proceeds
as follows:

B: "Honey, what's wrong?"
Me: "Nothing."
B: "Babe, I can tell something is wrong, what's the matter?"
Me: "Nothing, I just didn't sleep good, I was thinking about too much."
B: "I'm sorry, what were you thinking about? What's wrong?"
Me: "Nothing, just pointless worrying, nothing.²
B: "Honey..."
Me: (and then I let it out) "Just everything, I worry about the future, what

is going to happen, house, kids, money, what state we are living in,
wedding, creating a beautiful home for our family, how will we do this and
how will we do that, everyone is having kids,
everyone is married, everyone is pregnant."

As you can see my thoughts all came pouring out. Little tears came and I
felt overwhelmed. B held me and as always, promised me that everything would
be just fine.

He said I can't look at people around us and compare. Everyone
has a different path and story. Timing is different for everyone and that

is what make this road of life so incredible. The unknown. But what I do know,
is that he will be right by my side.

I needed to stop a minute and look around. Look at how far B and I have come
in the past year. I like our story. A good friend reminded me of something
we talked about and apparently I said months and months ago.
Everyone else may be engaged or getting married or starting a family or
having 2nd and 3rd children but that doesn't matter. We all have different
paths, and the best thing about not having that yet... Is that the best is yet to come
She reminded me that we still have all those incredible moments.
They aren't over, we are just getting started. I am lucky enough to have
those ahead. I would not have wanted any of this any sooner, really. The
excitement, appreciation, anticipation and pure joy for the future that I
have now, would not have come with anything but time and experiences.

I feel refreshed after writing this actually. Sometimes we all need to be
reminded of what life is all about. To not get too caught up in the moment
or let our minds wander into all the "what ifs."

I think I need these moments every once and while. A moment to make me stop
and look around. A moment to count my blessings. A pep talk with myself. So
after some tiny tears, a big bear hug from B and a lot of perspective, I am oh so very thankful.
I'm leaving you with this quote:

"The journey in between what you once were and who you are now becoming is
where the dance of life really takes place." - Barbara De Angelis

In this dance of life it all
comes down to one word,

This dress is a recent find and the colors reminded me of the swirly taffy. I'm not really much of a pattern person but I couldn't pass this up. I love the color combo and the pattern mixture. Now, as for where this was prior to it's new home in my closet...T.J. MAXX. Yep, I went over there looking for a wedding shower gift and was passing the dress section and it caught my eye. This is a great transition piece from summer sandals to the addition of a blazer, belt, and some tights. I was happy with this find.

Tonight we are headed to meet B's Dad for dinner; definitely looking forward to it. He is in town for work and lucky for him, he gets to be graced with our lovely presence!

I'm Falling for Fall

I'm a warm weather kind of girl. I love the sunshine and am lucky to wake
up to sunshine 90% of the time (not an actual fact, I just feel like that is a good estimate). However, this summer is wearing me out and it's only August. Realistically I have another solid month of 100 degree weather. It's silly to post about fall but I am ready for it and I already have things scoped out for my favorite season. Cooler weather, fun events, hikes, running outside, picnic's, tights, BBQ's, football season (mainly for the gathering of friends), Thanksgiving, pumpkins, leaves, ahh I can't wait!

I'm really loving navy blue, dark green and gold. I love this OPI polish. It's the Texas collection and it's called "Don't mess with OPI."  I want to find a navy blazer, preferably one with gold accents or buttons. I am also on the hunt for a mustard yellow belt. Tights, tights and more tights will be the staple. Oh and some new boots - must be wedges. I also need to incorporate in some stripes and deep orange/brown colors.

Baking is another one of my favorite fall things, pumpkin bread, cornflake
peanut butter treats, banana bread, strawberry muffins, YUM.

What are your favorite things about fall? Traditions? Baking? What are you falling for?

Dinner Date Party + Pizza Making!

My roommate and I moved in to our cute new house a few months ago and we have yet to host a dinner party. So, this past weekend, we did just that.

The details:
2 roomie hostesses + 6 couples + 1 birthday girl
The menu:
DIY- Pizzas
Choose of toppings:

Sauce: White or Red
Toppings: sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, peppers, peperoncini's, crushed red pepper, fresh basil, diced onions.
Cheese: fresh mozzarella, shredded mozzarella, Parmesan.

We started off the party with a fresh Caesar salad and veggie tray, and good conversation. A few of us hadn’t seen each other in a couple months so it was nice to catch up on life.

Then it was time for pizza’s! We found thin mats (similar to place mats) for each couple to make their pizza on.

Each couple had a pizza crust, a mat and a little bit of flour. This is where the skills came out!

Some pizzas were looking great, others a little iffy! It was hard to get the dough just right and shaped like circle. Lacy and Matt’s literally looked like the shape of America, see pics below.

This part was so fun! We brushed the dough with a little olive oil and garlic and then put it on the grill for about 3 minutes, took it off and came back in for the actual building of the pizza. Next we choose the sauce, meat and variety of toppings. Once we got it just the way we wanted, back to the grill it went. We let them cook about another 4 minutes depending on the size and toppings. All the pizzas were yummy and turned out great! This was our first time with this dinner idea so there were a couple mishaps, I’m not going to leave those out. First, my co-hostess Mer, and her BF were the ones who tried the dough on the grill first...all I heard was laughing... hysterical laughing! Apparently Mer was asking if it was done and the response was, “well it’s black.” So the first one we tried completely burnt to a crisp, I think the grill was on too high! Ekkkks! Live and learn right? And of course we bought just enough dough for each couple no extras just in case. We must have thought we were pro’s and there would be no need for a couple extras. Not the case, the closest grocery store we went for replacement dough. Once the heat was tuned down the dough cooked nicely. Second mishap, we just didn’t measure the amount of cheese and a couple toppings correctly. I mean one bag of cheese for 12 people? Half are boys?!?! I don’t think so. Back to the closest grocery store we went! We also had to pick up a couple more toppings seeing that some were favorites and were totally EMPTY. All in all the pizzas were a huge success. It engaged our guests in the cooking process, it was fun, and people were able to create their own masterpiece. The thought of the cleanup was dreadful, when the pizzas were being made and the flour was everywhere, I just knew this clean up would be interesting. ;) BUT, as soon as we were all done, all our lovely girls started an assembly line of cleanup mode! It was incredible and before I knew it, the kitchen was looking like normal and we were on to the next part of the night. Catch Phrase! If you have not played this game, you must! It is such a fun group game. We played guys vs. girls and it was hilarious, the competitive sides come out! The girls won of course, not without the boys insisting we cheated. They could not accept defeat. Haha. We sang Happy Birthday and enjoyed a giant yummy cookie with ice cream. Stuffed doesn’t even come close to describing how I felt.

The birthday girl loved the evening.
Pizza Party Date Night + Birthday = A+

Sunday was RELAX mode. B and I laid in bed for the majority of the morning and early afternoon and it was just what we needed. I love cuddling on Sunday. Later that day we enjoyed dinner with Mer and Bill at Z-Tejas and then headed to the Eric Church Concert. For those of you who didn’t know this, I am a HUGE, I mean HUGE country fan. B surprised me with these tickets about a month ago; Eric Church is one of my top favs. We had a great time, thank you B.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Friday Favorites - Blush + Gold

This color combination makes me happy. I love the blush, nude, light pink, gold family. These colors are calming, feminine and happy. I need everything pictured below. These little stud earrings are kate spade but I found the exact same ones at this little boutique last weekend. The best part, they were $5.00, yes $5.00!

What are your favorite color combination's, and more importantly what colors are you loving for fall?

It feels so right.

This past weekend was absolutely incredible, we went back to my B's hometown in UT. This was our first trip since B moved down to AZ to be with me. It was so nice to go back and this trip gave me a whole new appreciation and perspective of this amazing place he has called home for so many years. The smell alone does it for me, it¹s crisp, clean and fresh. The grass and trees are green.

We started off the weekend with a family barbeque, B's terrific father (who is just like B, times 10) surprised his mom with a new car for their 40th anniversary. 40 years! Big bow and all. It was the sweetest thing, yes it was a grand gesture but the underlining reason was to make her happy and bring a smile to her face. It was an act of kindness that was so sincere. They are a true example of what is built when two people fall in love.

The food was d'lish, turkey steak, corn, watermelon, potato salad, an enormous chocolate cake with homemade burnt almond fudge ice cream. Can you think of a better summer barbeque menu?! So yummy.

It was PERFECTION. I love that B is so considerate. Although I am totally comfortable with his family I love that he checks on me. I love that he always remembers to get me a napkin too, it¹s the little things. He really thinks "us" not "me." We all had dinner in the backyard, gathered around for great conversation, high 70's, flowers everywhere and as the sun set, little white twinkling lights on the backyard cottage. I thought to my self, this is what it is all about...this is what I want and hope to have someday.

The rest of the weekend highlights were

- Shopping at this adorable little boutique called Sweet Briar Hollow see below, I was all about it. Check out this gorgeous wreath, I would love to recreate this. I also found some artichokes to use for a table centerpiece, picture of these to come.

- A friends wedding up in a canyon with breathtaking views...look at us, so engaged in the ceremony.

- We followed up the weekend with a relaxing Sunday, a neighborhood walk, and some quality with my future in-laws. Gosh I feel lucky, we have come so far and I never would have thought we would be sitting in B's living room talking about our future wedding. I'm happier than ever and I feel so thankful to have met this amazing man. I know we will end up in this amazing place, living the life we have imagined, it was such a beautiful "peek" into the future.

Thank you, B. Thank you for being so incredible, for always keeping your promises and giving me the ability to put all my trust into another person. You absolutely complete me, you tease me like crazy but I suppose its good for me. You hold my hand and make me feel safe, you love me unconditionally and have the biggest heart. You cuddle me in your arms at just the right moment. You will give me head massages night after night, just when I think you are going to finally say no and hit the point of being annoyed, you cuddle me and say "come here baby." Thank you for thinking of me throughout your day, for bringing me diet cokes in the afternoon when I have been stuck at my desk all day, and bringing me $5 flowers that last for weeks. I am looking at them now. The sound of your voice when you sing in the car, the feel of your hand when it¹s holding mine. The feeling that I get when I look at you and imagine the rest of my life...

I thank you for that.

Turquoise Tuesday Outfit : My love for the 1960's

Ever since I saw this skirt on Julia at Gal meets Glam - I needed to try the long skirt for two reasons:

1. I have a long waist and an hour glass figure. Every dress or shirt is
always TOO short on me.
2. I love that long skirts are coming back in, at least that's my vote - even if its not...I'm loving the look.
3. Oh, one more reason - this skirt TWIRLS.

I think that this skirt hits at a nice tea length. It is feminine and
flattering. I have come to the point in my life where I want to find items that flatter MY personal figure, and not just go with some new "in" trend.
Let me tell ya if I could have lived in the 60's, I would have fit right in and loved every second of the fashion. I'm tired of super short and tight, I'm going for classic and classy.
